You can eat the same meal every day

UPDATE

Reading this one year later and I must admit I did get bored of eating salmon broccoli and rice every day. But not as bored as you may think! I still stand by this.

Here’s a pet peeve of mine. It’s 7pm and I’m trying to decide where to eat. “Want to get Indian?” I ask. “No, I had Indian yesterday.”

Sounds reasonable to you, I bet. Well, you’re wrong. How do you think Indians feel? Do you think they’re like, “no more Indian, let’s have Thai food tonight?” I don’t think so. They have Indian food every goddam day and they don’t complain about it.

Which brings me to my larger point: you can have the just about the same food every day and it is good. I’ve had salmon, broccoli and rice every night for the past week and I’m not getting bored of it.

You get better at cooking

A well-designed experiment has control variable and and independent / dependent variable. When you make the same thing every day, this is much easier to do. Adjust independent variables like oven temp, time in oven, amount of salt, etc.

It’s easier

Same ingredients. Same process.

It’s healthier than eating out

If you’re cooking at home AND make something different every night, you’re excused. But if you’re getting “variety” in your diet by eating different take-out every night, you’re eating unhealthily.

Conclusion

Don’t be sad eating the same meal every day.
